Profile Overview
This award winning project involved the refurbishment of the historic public lavatories at Talbot Road in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Along with the facilities at Bevington Road, the Talbot Road public lavatories date back to the Edwardian period and were designed to serve visitors to the world famous Portobello Road market.
Having closed to the public in the 1990’s and fallen in to disrepair, the full refurbishment of facilities were designed to respect and restore the original characteristics of the building through elements such as retaining and restoring the original urinals and introducing edwardian floor tiling throughout.
The completed project was very well recieved by the Borough, residents and traders alike.
Deputy Leader of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Cllr Nick Paget-Brown, said: “Close to 60,000 people visit the market each Saturday so these new facilities will be in much demand. I know that local traders and residents will be pleased with the high quality of work that has restored age-old lavatories to their former glory.”
